This grade 12 art unit is designed to encourage students to use their knowledge of art language
to describe and analyze visual images, and to inspire creative storytelling in their interpretations.
It also involves the use of guided imagery to inspire creative journaling and visual expression.

This Cherokee story of two wolves lends itself to an exploration of each student's personal
values as well as allowing for them to discover what kind of person they want to
be. Students will have an opportunity to respond to the story using art and drama.

This lesson includes three components, the first is to building individual confidence and identity, secondly to
create a positive classroom community and last to teach student tolerance of others. This lesson includes a variety of activities that provide students creative outlets to express themselves and interact with their class mates.

A Russian fairytail about Baba Yaga, the main part of the unit will be told several times. The story contains many examples of compassion and empathy which will hopefully instill a deeper connection and understanding of empathy in students. The storytelling approach has been used to reach the children in an indirect way of learning.

This activity will involve students crating a map of their childhood home, which will be shared with
classmates. Students will learn about themselves and their classmates while developing their writing
skills. Each students will chose one incident that they would like to write about as a final project.

The intention of this unit is to enhance children's understanding and acceptance of other people's
point's of view. Water will be used as one of the themes in this unit. Students will read and write
fairytales, explore stories from different traditions, create a living tableau and a class picture book.

Students will bring an object into class that is special to them. They will have the opportunity to share
the story behind this object several times in small groups. After sharing stories and asking
questions of classmates students will make an illustration of their object and write a story about it.
